Active Travel Scotland works with policy-makers and practitioners to promote walking and cycling as health-enhancing physical activity.
We are supported by the Scottish Government as part of the delivery framework for the physical activity strategy, Let's Make Scotland More Active.
We aim to increase the number of Scottish people improving their health through walking and cycling.
To achieve this we are:
- working through community planning mechanisms to help create cross-cutting initiatives between the health, education, transport, planning and environment sectors so that active travel and its promotion become part of their culture;
- working nationally with decision-makers in these fields to promote active travel and help increase the evidence base on the health impact of active travel projects.
The key focus of Active Travel Scotland is on ways of encouraging the most sedentary people to become more active.
